After almost 20 years of selling mozzarella and bread under canvas tents at farmers’ markets, Hoboken Farms finally has a real roof over its head. In May, Brad Finkel, who owns the business, added his first brick-and-mortar location — a tiny takeout sandwich shop — on the western edge of Summit
Mr. Finkel, a Hoboken native whose family settled there in the late 19th century, employs as many as 20 people at 30 weekly markets throughout New Jersey (plus two in Manhattan) during the growing season. “We thought, people love our mozzarella and bread, and that’s 50 percent of a sandwich, so let’s open a sandwich shop,” he said…
Hoboken Farms Big Red Marinara Sauce
New Jerseyans know their tomatoes—after all, it is the state vegetable. And this small-batch brand from Hoboken produced the tasting’s top pick for its brightness and balance of acidity and sweetness. Mr. Chernow praised it as the “most classic” of the bunch, while Mr. Holzman liked that it is “lightly cooked with a really fresh tomato flavor.” This crowd pleaser is sold exclusively at Whole Foods.
Hoboken Farms has the most delicious sandwiches known to man.
This is an experience you DO NOT WANT TO MISS!!!
I had the pleasure of trying their mozzarella right after it was prepared — it was honestly the best mozzarella I’ve ever tasted. (And I love cheese…)
This is by far the best jarred marinara or tomato sauce I’ve ever had. Bar none. I have tried many brands of high-end sauce and this beats them all. Its safe to say its equal to many Italian grandma homemade sauces as well. Its that good.
Thanks for catering our party yesterday. Best sandwiches in NJ. Sweet potato salad was outstanding as were the new fresh Juices. Our guests raved about the selection and the quality.
Hoboken Farms rocks the gluten-free world. Stop by the shop, eat Gfree blissfully!
The Best part of the menu is that anything can be made Gluten Free
We had been visiting NJ for our niece’s Christening and heard this place was great and that they had gluten free. I am a very, very sensitive Celiac, so after a little research, I was confident in trying this place out. Wow I cant remember the last time I had a chicken parm hero like this (probably close to 10 years). I was blown away by the quality of the ingredients, the freshness, the taste, the everything! The gluten free bread was perfect and their cross contamination practices are SUPERB. I actually spoke to the owner and he knows his stuff. The best part is the menu – ANYTHING on the huge menu (it takes up the whole wall behind the counter) can be made GLUTEN FREE. Blown Away. Just Blown Away. (By the way, I hear their regular stuff is just as awesome !)
So delicious! Just ordered more! Yum!
Our office orders in from this place weekly and it is one of our favorites to order from. First the bread is phenomenal. The motz is ridiculously fresh. Everything I have ordered has been nothing but superb. The fact that they offer such strict gluten free options are a godsend for those in my office as they can now partake of great sandwiches.
Service is stellar. Food is fabulous. THIS is a sandwich shop worth coming to again and again and we do. I have even brought home a sandwich to my husband (prosciutto & motz) and he’s eaten it without an issue. This from a man who does not eat cold cold cut sandwiches.
I go to the Hoboken Farmer’s Market mainly for the fresh mozzarella. It’s incredible. I’ve never tasted such silky, yummy mozzarella before. We frequently make our own pizza and this cheese makes all the difference. The Big Red Marinara sauce is great on it too!
The chicken is awesome. I’m really picky with raw chicken and often spend way too long trimming away the fatty and questionable pieces when I purchase chicken in the grocery stores. The chicken cutlets and lemon chicken from Hoboken Farms are trimmed so well I don’t even feel the need to clean them up more before cooking them! The burgers, ravioli, bread, and everything else is fantastic too! And who doesn’t love Mutzy the Cow and her song on their website?!
Hoboken Farms, Big Red Marinara Sauce that is so good, it barely makes it out of the jar…
The only drawback is that there are so many good choices on the menu, it’s going to take you a while to actually decide what you want.
Hoboken Farms Sandwich Shop is absolutely my favorite sandwich shop.
A couple of weeks ago, I noticed a hearty sandwich being grilled on the panini press…the work of art is “La Zafra-Brisket Cuban”. It is incredibly juicy and I can honestly say it is the best sandwich that I have ever had.
I ordered “Jimmy’s Guitar Bar” earlier today (fresh roast turkey, the best and freshest mozzarella, pesto aioli, and red wine vinegar with romaine leaf lettuce, shaved red onion on a baguette). It was truly delicious. I ordered the “large size” and it was enough for two people. I was amazed by the generous amount of turkey. When coupled with the mozzarella, it’s a sandwich I keep ordering again and again.
I come here every Monday and Wednesday. I always order the upper park. I am addicted! Wonderful bread, great fresh mozzarella, and nice fresh tomatoes and roasted peppers. Mt mouth is watering just thinking about going there next Monday!
I love this place! I live in Union City and whenever I visit friends in the Summit area I make it a point to stop here. The sandwiches are delicious, bread is fresh and the Mutz and marinara have become staples. The staff is friendly and unlike other reviews I’ve never had an issue with waiting. Only down-point is that they are not closer to me.
This is by far one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever experienced!
Absolutely the best sandwiches on the planet! We live near Hershey, PA and always make Hoboken Farms our destination when in town visiting family.
This is one of the best sauces ever. It has instantly become a favorite at my house.
Coming from a long line of restaurateurs, I am very picky about my food. Just one visit and you will be addicted!
We all love it. It is a great sauce. Best fresh taste ever and seasoned just right.
Sandwiches are delicious. Bread is fresh and top-notch. Mozzarella is about as good as you can get anywhere. They use excellent, high-quality prosciutto.
Service is excellent- they want to be the best and it shows.
This is equal to my own home made sauce! Awesome!
We were heading back to Pittsburgh one weekend but a friend had told us about this sandwich shop so being the friends we are we met them out there to try it out before we headed back.
All I can say is, WOW!!!! Not only did we order sandwiches for ourselves, but while we were there we made room in our travel cooler to take sandwiches back for the family. We called down to the family we were visiting in New Jersey and told them to drop what they were doing and come up and try for themselves. The Contender, the Hoboken Plunge, and everything else we tried wasn’t just above average, but some of the best sandwiches of those style I’ve had ANYWHERE!
I see some reviews with issues with wait times… Ok so I don’t know what kind of sandwich stop you thought you were a patron of, but you may want to rethink your reviews. These were made fresh with TOP NOTCH ingredients, no gluten to be found, and taste that is out of this world. Bread that was phenomenal, fresh mozzarella made with obvious love and care for what they do, and an incomparable style.
My family in NJ are frequent customers at Hoboken Farms now, visiting there and passing many a “pretender” sandwich shop in the process. They enjoy rubbing it in when they make the trip up there to get sandwiches since I’m not about to drive 6 hours from Pittsburgh to get them…. though don’t think I haven’t been tempted.
Hoboken Farms food is worth the time and cost. Stop comparing this place to your get in and get out fast food joints and see it for what it is. Gourmet sandwiches at middle class prices. It’s a bold move in today’s marketplace and I respect them all the more for pushing substance over quantity.
I just had the La Zafra Brisket Cuban Sandwich and it was amazing!!!!!!
The first time I went to Hoboken Farms, I thought, “these sandwiches and mutz are the absolute best.” The second time, they recognized me right off the bat and asked how my family was, how I was doing, and I thought, “the guys who work here are the absolute best!” Everything about this place is the absolute BEST.
Not only do they have the best sandwiches in the world, they also have the best people working for them. You’re not just a customer at HF, you’re family.
CAPUTO WORLDWIDE…best sandwich ever! Followed closely by the Yankee Foxtrot Hotel. I’m a fan of the sandwich shop and farmers market booth… Try the crab cakes.
Love walking into place where the counter is buzzin and there are people of all ages and walks of life deciding, ordering and waiting for the same thing. GOOD EATS!
I want to let everyone know that Hoboken Farms Sandwich Shop is the BEST!
I LOVE this sauce!
I received this a few days ago and could not wait to try it. It is without a doubt the best tasting jarred marinara sauce I have ever eaten. You can bet I will be ordering it again – and again
When I was growing up there always seemed to be a pot of gravy cooking on the stove in my house. Gravy, of course, is New Jersey Italian for tomato sauce, and my grandmother’s was the best. I make it to her recipe to this day. But sometimes life doesn’t always give me enough time to make the classic, long-simmered sauce, like my grandmother used to. What’s a guy to do? I’ll let you in on a secret: I use tomato sauce from a jar.
You have to believe that if I am using sauce from a jar, it’s going to be the absolute, no-holds-barred, best sauce ever. And that, my friends, is Hoboken Farms “Big Red” Tomato Sauce (you gotta love the name, right?). We know tomatoes in New Jersey and Hoboken Farms knows what to do with them. They cook them long and slow and get a sauce that is thick, rich and full of flavor. Nothing is better than that.
Simmer it with some meatballs, toss it over some pasta and you have an instant Sunday feast.
A few weeks ago, I attended the Fancy Food Show at the Javits Center in NYC. This was such an insane collection of food entrepreneurs (both old and new), that went into sensory overload just trying to absorb it all…not to mention all the samples.
While I was there, I visited the Hoboken Farms booth. I had heard of Hoboken Farms before, but had not tried their product. At the show I was able to do that and talk with the founder, Brad Finkel.
SUMMIT, NJ – Good restaurant service supposes fresh food, a clean atmosphere and pleasant staff. But hospitality, an often-elusive quality in today’s fast food world, separates a superb eatery from the rest. As defined by Hoboken Farms owner Brad Finkel, hospitality means walking into an establishment where everyone knows your name and anticipates your needs. “It’s about showing clients love,” he says…
Many of you know and love Hoboken Farms for their awesome stand at the Uptown Hoboken Farmers Market. Fresh Mutz, Balthazar’s Bread, and much more.
But did you know that Hoboken Farms now makes and sells what myself (and many MANY others) believe to be the hands-down best jar of marinara sauce in the world?
“My grandmother made a really good sauce,” says Brad Finkel of Hoboken Farms, “but mine is much better.”
The secret to Finkel’s successful sauce? Really great tomatoes. “We look for sugar content and acidity balance,” he says, “That makes it taste great.” He uses New Jersey tomatoes when they’re in season and California tomatoes when Jerseys’ aren’t. Finkel explains that his Big Red Marinara occasionally is unavailable when he’s had to send tomatoes back that don’t meet his standards, saying, “We work so hard to build our reputation, we’re not going to ruin it with half-ass tomatoes.”…
